Wheat Ridge Dahlias is Created!

An RN by profession, a gardener by hobby, I have too much garden for my space. I come from a family of farmers but have chosen to live in the city and follow my career path as a nurse. I can never claim to be a real farmer or even come close to the accomplishments of my realtives on their real farms, but I can utilize my home to the best of my ability to make the most of my available resources considering spacial, financial, and time constraints.

After years of home gardening I recently fell in love with dahlias. I had never planned to grow dahlias in the past, believing that they were too much work and not a nautral perennial for our climate here in Colorado, but their beauty was hard to ignore. I had been told by dahlia enthusiasts that they are mesmerizing; addictive. After growing a handful of plants one year I was hooked. My dahlia garden expanded to tens of plants, nearly a hundred, in my second year. I couldn't help myself, and precious vegetable garden space was sacrificed to accomodate the dahlia plants. But I had to try more, and more. I bought more varieties than I had space for and needed to find a place to plant them. I started planting any place I had room, including the community garden where I have rented garden space for years. At the end of the season I had many many plants to dig up but little use for all those tubers the next year. There was also the problem of winter storage - it felt like triage deciding which plants would stay and which would go. I dug up my favorites first and filled my storage space until it was full. Fortunately only a small number of plants didn't meet the cut but the ones that were saved were the most popular, prolfic, early, and strongest blooming plants I had. I may not have the variety in numbers of dahlia merchants, but I can assure that the ones I keep will perform well in Colorado and you won't be dissapointed. These tubers I cherish are the most loved, the most talked about, and the best performers in the garden last year. I'm sure over time the varieties will change with the addition and subtraction of other dahlias, but my goal is to offer high quality, dependable surplus at a price that is affordable to you and is used to help fund the growth of my gardens. Thank you for checking out Wheat Ridge Dahlias. Please browse..... this is what I do in my free time. :)
